Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic

What is post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) and how does it work?

PCR stands for Post Consumer Recycled plastics, and it is an eco-friendly plastic made from plastic recycled from consumer goods such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, or plastic packaging. PCR plastic is a sustainable solution to help reduce plastic wastes that normally takes up to 500 years to disintegrate. On the other hand, PCR plastic is a new sustainable solution for brands to utilize in order to limit or reduce their environmental impact and carbon footprint.

What are the benefits of using post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR)?

The main benefit of using PCR is its environmental impact. By using PCR plastics, companies will help the environment by reducing plastic wastes that end up in landfills, potentially becoming plastic-negative companies. Plus, manufacturing PCR plastics produces up to 70% fewer carbon emissions compared to manufacturing regular plastics. In other words, companies that implement PCR plastics in their retail products have the potential to reduce their carbon footprint by 70%, drastically reducing their environmental impact on the world. With the recent rise of demand for sustainable products, recycled products, and sustainable packaging, using PCR plastics in consumer products helps companies to improve their reputation with environmentally conscious customers. Also, with the growing attention to ESG, using environmental-friendly resources like PCR proves a company's growing sustainability to their investors.

Difference between PCR and PIR and issues of recycled plastics

As their names suggest, PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic comes from consumer waste while PIR (post-industrial recycled) plastic is recycled from leftover plastics from the manufacturing processes. While both of them serve a great purpose of reducing plastic waste, recycling PCR plastics is far more complicated than recycling PIR plastics. Unlike PIR plastic, PCR plastic has to go through the process of sorting, grinding, and cleaning, and each of these processes is extremely hard to execute. The sorting and cleaning process of recycling post-consumer products is especially difficult due to the lack of public recycling knowledge. However, the effort of recycling PCR plastic does not come to a waste. While using PIR creates fewer plastic wastes in the environment, PCR actually reduces plastic wastes that will make a valuable impact on the environment. Fortunately for you, Sunta has already got all of these issues solved and will be able to provide the best quality PCR plastics to our customers.

Sunta's approach

Quality

One of the main concerns that companies consider when switching to PCR plastics is quality degradation. Conventionally, there is a challenge where the recycling process of polymer chains break down has resulted in quality degradation. However, with our innovation in research and development with one of the best plastic manufacturers in the world(Formosa Chemical), we were able to come up with high-performing PCR plastics that can compete with regular general-grade plastics. On top of that, we created a brand new solution to improve the range of use for some of the plastic materials that are superior to general-grade plastics, making Sunta one of the best-recycled plastic suppliers.

Varieties and applications

Sunta provides a wide range of PCR plastics, including PCR-PP, PCR ABS, PCR HIPS, PCR PC/ABS, and PCR PC. Since the quality of PCR plastics and regular plastics are so similar, their applications are identical.

Manufacturing process of PCR plastics

Manufacturing process of PCR plastic - material classification, sorting, grinding, cleansing, melting, extrusion, granulation, become retail products.

Our partnering company - Formosa Chemical

Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. is a subsidiary of the Formosa Plastics Group in Taiwan, one of the most impactful chemical companies in the world. They were ranked as the 6th largest chemical company in the world in 2019, and have been continuously growing.  Sunta has been working with Formosa Chemical for the past two years to develop different variations of PCR plastics, and we were able to create PCR plastics that are superior to PCR plastics created by most other manufacturers.

PCR Certifications - GRS & TUV & UL

Every kind of PCR plastic that Sunta provides is certified by GRS, UL and TUV – internationally recognized certification organizations in the plastic industry. These organizations went through a variety of tests to ensure the quality of Sunta’s PCR plastics is well made. The certification process went through a detailed check that goes through the manufacturing process, production line, packaging, machines, and toxic chemical tests. As Sunta provides a variety of PCR content percentages ranging from 30% to 100%, we can proudly say that all of the customized options are certified.

PCR certifications - UL for 30%, 50%, 85% post consumer recycled plastics.

Previous Sunta PCR events

Eco Expo Asia is the leading fair in Asia for promoting innovative green technologies, and this year's theme was "Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality". Through the event, we are going to promote our PCR plastics' potential to help customers drastically reduce carbon emissions and improve company reputation.
With the great feedback we got from the FHKI demo day, we decided to hold an in-house event to explain further details about our PCR products to potential buyers.

FHKI Demo day "New Generation Plastics: Latest Applications and Industry Outlook" aimed to showcase some of the most innovative and environmentally impactful plastic companies and technologies. During the event, we showcased our PCR products for the first time, and the responses we got exceeded our expectations.
